KSAT-5 Concealed Carry I

Carrying a concealed firearm requires a high level of commitment in the event it actually must be used.
Our course covers aspects including preparation, use, avoidance of conflict, and equipment selection.

Course Goal
“To provide CCW Permit Holders with the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry a concealed weapon."

Lessons
 1. Weapon Safety – A refresh on the basic rules for safe firearm handling, with an emphasis on
safety and practical training application
 
2. Mental Preparation – One of the most important factors in preparing for the possible use of
deadly force, this segment focuses on the mental mindset for self-defense
 
3. Awareness – The best way to avoid using a concealed firearm is to avoid a situation that would
require it’s use, which is the point of increasing situational awareness
 
4. Firearm Characteristics – Oriented with a practical eye towards self defense, we cover the attributes
of several types of firearms, including reliability, function, reloading, and other important factors related
to self defense firearms
 
5. Holsters – Students are asked to bring in their own holsters resulting in the opportunity to
view, use, and discuss the various styles of holsters available on the market today
 
6. The Draw – Drawing and engaging a target using a concealed carry firearm involves special considerations
both in preparation and in practice. We will discuss, AND PRACTICE, in class using plastic gun replicas
 
7. Target Engagement – Different than target practice at a range, we discuss training scenarios designed
to increase your effectiveness and survivability
 
8. Taking The Shot – How quick, how many, when to stop are all considerations discussed
 
9. Stoppage Drills – Essential to a good plan, knowing how to handle them when they happen will
increase your survivability
 
10. Reloading – Quick, effective reloads are also practiced in class, with an emphasis on situational
awareness and the use of cover and concealment during reloading
 
11. Weapon Retention – In the event someone tries to take your firearm away, we cover techniques
designed to help you retain your gun, and prevent an escalation of the situation
 
12. After the Shot – Situational, emotional, and legal aspects are discussed
 
13. Types of Ammunition – Using the right ammunition can dramatically increase the effectiveness
and reliability of your firearm
 
14. Home Safety – Storing, cleaning, and storage of firearms at home have special considerations,
especially with children
 
15. Proficiency and Training – In addition to classroom training, we will provide training exercises
and scenarios for students to use during personal training after the class.

Prerequisites
You must have completed the NRA Basic Safety Course
 or
Hold a current CCW Permit

Course Completion
Students will receive feedback on the live-fire exercise and a course certificate upon successful completion of the lessons.
